New Eternal Mind

New Eternal Mind explores the development of a personal visual language used to communicate memory, identity, and internal experiences that are difficult to express through traditional language. With digital collage translated through painting, I combine personal symbols with existing systems of communication to examine how images gain meaning and how visual language can be constructed through lived experience.

Tobbi Dynavox Boardmaker icons are an important component of this evolving visual lexicon. Originally designed as an adaptive visual communication system, these icons are created to convey specific concepts through recognizable imagery. Removed from their original context and placed alongside personally significant imagery, these icons become part of a more complex system of meaning that exists between shared communication and individual interpretation.

Tarot structures are used within the work as a framework for sequencing and organizing imagery. Rather than functioning as fixed symbolism, the cards operate as a compositional and conceptual device that supports reflection, progression, and the arrangement of meaning within each piece.

Informed by ideas of operant conditioning and secular spirituality, this body of work examines the relationship between communication systems, personal symbolism, and the construction of identity. The imagery reflects experiences of self-reflection, memory, grief, sobriety, and transformation while developing a visual vocabulary specific to my own experience.

New Eternal Mind is an ongoing investigation into how symbols can function as a form of communication and how a personal language can be developed to understand and articulate identity.
